Deepfake videos of celebrities are pushing fake investment apps

Posted 25 Aug 2026

AI-generated videos are circulating that show a well-known celebrity, business leader, or “finance guru” appearing to personally endorse an investment app or trading platform promising guaranteed or huge returns.

The video is fake — the person never said any of it. The platform then shows fake profits to lure bigger deposits, and blocks withdrawals when you try to cash out (often demanding a “fee” or “tax” first). It’s a pig-butchering-style investment scam with a deepfake front.

What to do

  • No legitimate investment is “guaranteed” — and real celebrities don’t DM you stock tips.
  • Verify any endorsement on the person’s official, verified channels; deepfakes are very convincing.
  • Never pay a fee to “withdraw” your profits — that is the scam continuing.
