“Easy task” job offers on WhatsApp & Telegram are a trap

A stranger messages you out of the blue on WhatsApp or Telegram — often from an international number — offering easy work-from-home “tasks”: liking YouTube videos, rating products on shopping sites, or reviewing listings, for a small payment each.
The first few tasks really do pay a little — that’s the hook. Then you’re asked to “top up”, “recharge”, or “deposit” money to unlock a higher-paying batch of tasks. That deposit is the scam: the payouts stop, and any money you added is gone. These are now slick, AI-assisted operations that can fool even careful people.
What to do
- No real job ever asks you to pay to get paid, or to “unlock” tasks.
- Ignore job offers that arrive cold on WhatsApp, Telegram, or SMS — legitimate employers don’t recruit that way.
- Never move your own money into a “tasks” app or wallet to earn more.
- If you’ve already paid, stop immediately, screenshot everything, and report it.
